Lottery defined
Lottery is a game of chance that involves a player
choosing numbers for a drawing in an attempt to match the
numbers drawn. For a long time this form of gambling was
forbidden in many countries including the United States while at
the same time other countries condoned it to the extent of
organizing national or state lotteries.
In this day and age many state governments not only allow
lottery but they promote these games through the media and
advertising as a means of generating revenue in addition the
standard sales and state taxes.
This fact alone should tell one that playing these games in any
way other than with a carefree approach is likely to be a
foolish endeavor. If a government approves an activity in order
to generate revenue it’s most certainly going to cost someone
and in this case that someone would be the lottery players.
Those who put out money and buy tickets are contributing to
someone's fund and only once in a great while does it turn out
to be their own.
These games are intended as a form of entertainment and a chance
at wining money whether it be a small amount that matches the
price of a ticket or a large sum that could cover the cost of a
student’s tuition or the mortgage payments. If a person elects
to play these games the mind set should definitely reflect a
degree of common sense and responsibility.
Lotteries come in many forms and all are designed to attract the
player to one form or another of an exciting chance at winning
money or sometimes even goods such as wireless phones, cars or
vacations. The cash prizes may be a fixed amount based on a roll
over and increasing pot in the event no player matches the
numbers drawn. Other times the cash and prizes are calculated
based on how many winners hit the numbers in a particular game.
